Puik Werkt: Craftsmanship and opportunities for young people with a distance to the labor market
Puik Werken now has extensive experience in refurbishing ship hulls and has ambitious plans to scale up further. In shipbuilding, carpentry and ironwork come together in an intensive and multidisciplinary way. Every project, every ship is tailor-made, which means that our craftsmen-in-training are constantly challenged to develop further.
As a result, all-round craftsmen are trained at Puik who can be deployed widely. This is invaluable given the severe shortages of professionals in the industry. We strive for a golden future for young people, where they not only have paid work, but also learn a trade (carpentry and ironwork). This strengthens their position on the labor market and promotes their self-reliance.
What is the goal?
Financing is obtained via the Rikx platform for the required working hours, materials and equipment. Upon completion, each refurbished ship is sold as the basis for the next refurbishment project. Puik Werken aims to expand the shipyard with a fleet of 10 hulls under construction, each in various stages of completion. This allows us to offer work to both novice and advanced craftsmen-in-training.
At Puik Werken we believe that paid work and craftsmanship contribute to a stronger labor market position and self-reliance. We are determined to help young people grow, provide them with opportunities and prepare them for a promising future in shipbuilding.
